Independence police are asking for information about a home invasion and shooting on Winner Road late Friday night.

A man called police about 11:45 p.m. and said that he had been shot by a man who entered his home in the 9800 block of Winner Road. He said the man entered through the unlocked front door.

The man went to retrieve his gun from another room, but when he returned, the intruder shot him in the face.

Police spokesperson Tom Gentry said that the victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital, but a spokesperson at the hospital would not confirm his condition Monday afternoon.

Gentry said that police were seeking three men in connection with the shooting. Examiner news partner KMBC television reported that according to a witness, police may be seeking two men who were seen getting out of late 1990s model car, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, that had parked just south of the home. A short time later, the men ran from the house and fled in the car.

Several police were at the house investigating in the early morning hours Saturday and officers were talking to neighbors about the incident.

A Crime Scene Investigation unit van was on the scene and police were taking photos inside and outside the house.

Independence police are asking anyone with information about the case to call the department’s Investigations Unit at 816-325-7330 or the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
