Once again, the finest up-and-coming country music stars are coming to Independence.
The Independence Chamber of Commerce Tuesday announced the musical lineup for the Main Stage at the 40th annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival. Country music singer Lee Brice, who has co-written songs for country legends Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, is this year’s feature entertainment, as he takes the Main Stage at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.
In April, the 33-year-old Brice had his first No. 1 hit with his sixth single, “A Woman Like You.” Another of Brice’s songs, “Love Like Crazy,” the title track for his 2010 debut album, was named Billboard’s Top Country Song of 2010. That song set a record for the longest run on the Hot Country Songs, spending 56 weeks on that chart.
In addition to the free Main Stage entertainment near Independence City Hall, Santa-Cali-Gon Days also will offer entertainment at the Gospel Stage and on the Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics Community Stage.
Also returning this year for the second time is the attempt at breaking the world record of the Macarena. In 2011, the attempt was made on Labor Day, but fell short with 1,396 participants, compared to the 2,226 children who participated in the current largest participation world record holder in July 2011 in the United Kingdom.
The Main Stage concert lineup also includes the following musicians:
Friday, Aug. 31:
– 5:30 p.m.: Phil Vandel
– 7 p.m.: Opening ceremonies for Santa-Cali-Gon Days
– 7:30 p.m.: Honky Tonk Renovators
– 9 p.m.: Joe Diffie
Saturday, Sept. 1:
– 5:30 p.m.: Tracy Allison
– 7:15 p.m.: Tyler Farr
