The project: The diverging diamond interchange project on Woods Chapel Road. This includes work from north of Duncan Road south to Briarwood and Castle drives. It also includes a new interchange at Interstate 70 and Woods Chapel Road.
Cost: $13.1 million
Estimated completion date: The west side of the project from I-70 to Valley View Road as well as the commuter park and ride lot and the Duncan Road intersection is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. The entire project is expected to be completed by spring 2014.
The details: Work on the Woods Chapel Road project began in April. In addition to the new interchange, construction crews are widening a portion of the road and improving traffic signals. The changes to Woods Chapel are in preparation for the Oaks at Woods Chapel shopping center. The 21.8-acre project will sit just south of I-70, west of Woods Chapel. A CVS Pharmacy has already been announced as a tenant, but the development also includes spots for a grocery store, one restaurant and three retail buildings.
The progress: Work continues on the project, which is disrupting southbound traffic. On Monday, the Blue Springs City Council approved the conversion of a parcel of Burrus Old Mill Park for further construction along the road. This is part of the second phase of the Woods Chapel project. The conversion is an exchange for a parcel of land on Adams Dairy Parkway, south of Moreland School Road.
