Academic All-Stars: Emily Kristine Nelson

SCHOOL: Fort Osage High School
HONORS: Salutatorian; three-time academic letter recipient; received an associate of arts degree from MCC-Blue River; received a Departmental Science Award and the John Philip Sousa Award; member of National Honor Society; named to the Principal’s Honor Roll throughout high school.
ACTIVITIES: Member of the Fort Osage High School Marching Band; served two years as drum major; membership of Fellowship of Christian Athletes; member of the East Side Baptist Church 4:12 Student Ministries.

What advice do you have for next year’s freshmen?
The most successful students work hard in every area of their high school career.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Mrs. Gregory, the high school band teacher. She held me to the high standards I set for myself and helped me to become a better person and leader.

When you were not in school or studying, what did you enjoy doing?
I enjoyed spending time with my family and friends.

What college do you plan to attend and why?
I plan to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia because it offers me immediate involvement in my field of interest.

What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I see myself working in a scientific research lab trying to find the cure for cancer.
