A jury trial has been scheduled for the Kansas City man charged with sex crimes involving teenagers in Independence.

Norman E. Davis, 52, of Kansas City, charged with attempted forcible sodomy, second-degree attempted statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct involving a child, is currently on house arrest, according to court documents.

Several conditions apply to his house arrest, including having no contact with the victim, though he will no longer be monitored by GPS as he was during his first house arrest; and he is to be placed on total lockdown with only authorized trips outside his home.

Davis pleaded not guilty in February. The trial is expected to begin on Jan. 14, 2013.

Investigators said Davis approached at least five children in Independence. Court documents said he drove to the city and lured the teenagers into his car, sometimes offering marijuana. The boys ranged from 12 to 14 years old.

Court documents show that one victim told police that on Jan. 6, he was walking in Independence when a red, older model, “boxy” four-door vehicle pulled up next to him and stopped. The driver was described as a black man in his 20s or 30s, bald, with a large build with a big belly.

Another juvenile told police said that he was approached by a man driving a shiny, red vehicle in December. The juvenile told police the man was in his 30s or 40s with very short, close-cut hair and that he was heavy but not fat, a more accurate description of Davis.

On Feb. 11, a juvenile told police that a black male, described as heavy and wearing glasses, approached him. He described the man as in his late 30s or early 40s and wearing a ball cap.

Prosecutors said Davis admitted to police that he had been coming to Independence a couple of times a month for sex but only with consenting adults. He said one of his partners was 24 years old and that they had met between late December and the first two weeks in January.

Prosecutors also said earlier that Davis admitted as much while in police custody, telling investigators he was in the city in January, in his vehicle (a red, four-door 2010 Kia Optima) and in that location.

Davis was charged and convicted of promoting prostitution with a person under 18 in Marion County, Ind. Davis served three years in an Indiana prison. He was released in 2004.
