Dalvin Warmack, a junior running back from Blue Springs High School, is the winner of a National Athleadership Grant sponsored by NCSA Athletic Recruiting and the National Football League Players Association.
“I went to one of the national underclassmen camps – the Top Prospect Camp at Oklahoma State University – and they saw me and contacted me about applying for the grant,” said Warmack, who lettered as a freshman and sophomore at Blue Springs.
“It’s great to get a grant like this because you can apply it to college, and after you graduate they help you look for a job. It’s a group that really pays attention to the players and does a lot to help them.”
Blue Springs coach Kelly Donohoe said he was not aware of the honor, but added, “If it has to do with leadership, I can see why Dalvin won it. He’s a great young man and a solid leader on this team. We’re really looking forward to seeing what he does this season.”
The award is given to a select number of student athletes throughout the country in all sports, ranging from football to track. The Athleadership Grant is awarded to student athletes who qualify based on leadership in their community, academic achievement, athletics and a required essay written by the student athlete.
“I had to write a little essay about leadership,” Warmack said. “We have so many good, senior leaders on this team, I’m going to leave the leadership role to them. But I feel like if I need to say something, I will.”
DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFLPA, said his organization is pleased to team with NCSA Athletic Recruiting in recognizing some of the top student/athletes in the country.
“We are very pleased to be involved with NCSA in assisting in the recognition and the selection of young qualified student athletes to receive scholarship opportunities,” Smith said in a release. “Anytime, you can identify, help and reward future leaders to further their education and athletic pursuits, it’s a win-win and we are pleased to contribute to this worthy effort with NCSA.”
NCSA will work with Warmack and his family throughout his high school career and assist him in finding a collegiate institution that best matches his academic and athletic achievements.
“Our passionate team of 300 former athletes will personally guide and educate Dalvin throughout the entire recruiting process, giving him the tools that he needs to be successful in recruiting and in life.” Chris Krause, CEO and founder of NCSA Athletic Recruiting, said in a release. “Picking the right college is a life-changing decision. It’s important for student-athletes to recognize that the choice of a college or university is not just a four-year decision; it is a 40-year decision that will impact their professional future and personal success in life.”
