Sarah Lomax, the daughter of Steve and Tammy Lomax of Blue Springs, was recognized for her Girl Scout Gold Award on March 31.
She was 1 of 117 recipients in the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri council who received this award.
She has been a Girl Scout for 13 years and is a member of Troop 1610 in Service Unit 647 in Blue Springs.
For Sarah’s Gold Award project, she rallied her community to make blankets for the Project Linus organization. She enlisted members of her church and her Girl Scout service unit to help with her project. The church helped by donating materials and making blankets, and the scouts helped by fashioning tied fleece blankets.
She also created a handbook explaining her project and Project Linus and giving the pattern and instructions for the blankets.
Sarah made 27 blankets herself, but through her project she donated 131 quilts, weighted blankets and tied fleece blankets to Project Linus.
She is a senior at Blue Springs South High School.
