The project. The project was bid on Feb. 21 and the Blue Springs City Council awarded the contract on March 5, with Miles Excavating beginning work on April 9. Utility companies have been on site relocating their facilities, according to Blue Springs Public Works Department staff.

Scheduled completion dates. The west side of Woods Chapel Road from I-70 to Valley View Road, the Duncan Road intersection and the commuter park and ride lot will be completed this year.

Complete project completion is tentatively scheduled for spring of 2014.

Use caution. There is a construction zone in place with a 25 mph speed zone from Duncan Road to Briarwood/Castle Drive at the present time, staff said.

No need to avoid the area. Motorists should use caution, staff said, and allow a little more time and patience while traveling through the area. It’s hard to imagine that vehicles won’t be rerouted due to the level of construction.

Within that area between Duncan Road and Briarwood Drive will be the diverging diamond interchange, an innovative and relatively new traffic system that will shuttle as many as 40,800 cars per day by 2030.

Highly anticipated. Residents are excited about the start of the project, staff said – especially with the simultaneous construction of all four phases, which will help complete it faster.
