Duane Graham has been a driving force in getting an Eastern Jackson County ReStore, where Habitat sells donated construction materials, home and office furnishings and fixtures salvaged from demolition projects. That raises more money for Habitat’s homebuilding efforts.
How important is the new ReStore on Dodgion Street east of the Square in Independence?
“I think it’s going to be very important to our funding.” Also, it keeps materials out of landfills.
What draws you to put so much into Habitat for Humanity?
“I guess I just have a heart to help people who are less fortunate than me. That’s foundational. Habitat is very practical.”
He adds that Habitat at the end of the year can tally up with certainty how many families it has helped.
“We can really make a difference in their lives.”
With the store, Habitat needs even more volunteers, right?
“There’s so many important things that can be done,” from grant writing to office work to maintenance to swinging a hammer at homebuilding project.
