Blue Springs police continue to investigate a May 2 traffic crash that killed a Blue Springs woman.
Niccole J. Young, 39, reportedly lost control of her scooter while northbound on Missouri 7 at Mason School Road at about 11:10 p.m.
Police said it appears that Young lost control and struck another vehicle that was traveling in the same direction in the lane next to her. Young was ejected from her scooter.
Despite wearing her helmet, Young suffered significant injuries, police said, and died on May 4 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Police said they are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Young and her mother, Marie, were featured in The Examiner in a business profile. Her mother started That Catering Company in 2008, and her daughter joined her a month later. Two months after the business began, it was nominated for Blue Springs Outstanding Business of the Year, due in part to increase in business and overall quality.
In 2009, the Youngs completed 240 jobs. In 2010, they completed 700.
Young had said that people consider “catering” a scary word.
“People think catering is scary because they think it means fancy, but I want people to think outside of the box,” Young said at the time.
