With the completion of Stony Point Elementary this spring, four elementary schools serve the Grain Valley School District.

Construction began on the elementary school in 2006 with completion of the first phase in time for the 2007-08 school year. The second phase, which included the gymnasium and a classroom addition, was completed in early 2008.

The elementary facility, which is along Ryan Road next to Grain Valley Middle School helped to relieve overcrowding at the other three elementary schools – Sni-A-Bar, Matthews and Prairie Branch.

All four of the district’s elementary schools house kindergarten through fifth grades.
Grain Valley Middle School houses students in sixth through eighth grades. Each grade is divided into separate teams that have teachers in the core subject areas of communication arts, science, mathematics and social studies.

Students are split equally among the teams and remain with that group throughout the year. The middle school also offers a variety of exploratory classes as well as extracurricular activities, clubs and sports.

Grain Valley High School houses students in ninth through 12th grades and uses a block schedule structure. Students attend four, 90-minute classes each day and alternate between an odd and even schedule during the week.

In addition, there are many electives as well as sports, clubs and other extracurricular activities offered to students.

For those not successful in the traditional high school environment, there is Sni Valley High School.

Students can attend the school after the regular school day and catch up on courses they are behind in or failing. All four core subject areas are offered.

The Grain Valley Superintendent is Chris Small.

The assistant superintendent is Bryan McDonald. The executive director of human resources and auxiliary services is Carolyn Cameron.

The following is contact information for each school. Enrollment information is based on the 2007-08 school year.
