A simple way to get involved – vote

By becoming registered and placing a vote, citizens can have a voice in the community.

Voters must be 17 years and 6 months old to register to vote.

A valid form of photo identification must be shown. Acceptable forms include Social Security cards, driver’s licenses, insurance cards, check cards, credit cards, union cards, state identification cards or a work identification card. Registration must be completed four weeks prior to the election in order to become eligible. Voters who register at an official registration location will be given a permanent voter identification card 10 days prior to election. The voter is expected to show the card at the polls.

Election dates in Jackson County are held only on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in February, June, August and November and the first Tuesday in April. Eligible voters may cast an absentee ballot the sixth Tuesday before an election. A written request to the board must be sent to become eligible for absentee voting.   • Grain Valley City Hall, 711 Main St., 816-847-6200. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Mid-Continent Public Library, 110 W. Front St. in Grain Valley, 816-228-4020. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
