The University of Missouri Extension Center in Blue Springs is sponsoring the seminar, “Healthy Yards for Clear Streams,” from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It is designed to help homeowners be better stewards of the environment and make decisions to enhance water quality.
Homeowners use more chemicals per acre on lawns than farmers use on crops. Some of these chemicals are reaching streams and lakes, with harmful consequences.
Topics include the connection between yards and streams, healthy lawn care, rain gardens and integrated pest management. Sponsors include MU Extension Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City, the City of Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department and the Jackson County Soil & Water Conservation District.
The $10 fee covers the cost of study materials and lunch. To register, call 816-252-5051.
