Two boys were left on a school bus Monday after an Independence School District bus driver missed their stop.
The boys, who are 7 and 10 years old, attend Sugar Creek Elementary School. Superintendent Jim Hinson said he is unsure of why the boys were left on the bus, but another bus driver found the boys sitting in the back of the school bus at the district’s transportation facility at 900 S. Powell Road.
“The students were not on the bus very long,” Hinson said. “When they were found, we immediately notified their parents.”
The driver, who is a full-time employee with the district, is facing disciplinary action because he did not follow procedure and walk all the way to the end of the bus to check for children. The school district is investigating and viewing footage from an onboard camera to see how the boys could have been left.
