Quick 5 questions for Gerry Winship

1 What are the main duties of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority? To oversee the maintenance and operation of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex in a fiscally-responsible manner. The challenge is to make and keep it among the premier sports facilities in the nation.



2 What interested you in serving on the board once again? I have been involved with the Royals and Chiefs for 35 years. Mr. Kauffman was a big influence. I have served as a Royal Lancer since the early 70s. This is a way I feel I can contribute to the community.



3 Why have the Chiefs and Royals had such good fan support even with bad teams? Yes, we have won a Super Bowl and a World Series, but I think that the Chiefs Redcoaters and Royal Lancers have been very important through the years to the success of each team because of these business men and women have been very productive year after year through their personal contacts and repeat season ticket sales for both the Chiefs and Royals. 



4 What do you remember about your days as state senator and running against Mel Carnahan? There was a lot more civility in the legislature at the time than there is now. You didn’t have such strict divisiveness.  You would argue about something, but then go have dinner with members of the oppositive party. Now they don’t discuss things the way they should because of all the divisiveness.



5 How does it feel to be back in public service again? I enjoy working with people and this is a good chance to work with people and listen to them and their ideas, to see what can be implemented.
