A man accused of child molestation, statutory rape and possessing child pornography is scheduled to have an arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Jackson County Courthouse Annex building in division 33.
Jackson County prosecutors have charged Robin C. Knight, 46 of Lee’s Summit, with three counts of statutory sodomy, three counts of first degree child molestation, two counts of sexual misconduct, and one count each of possession of child pornography and statutory rape.
All the crimes were alleged to have happened in Independence.
Knight posted $200,000 bond and was released Aug. 21 after Independence police arrested him on Aug. 8. The bond was $250,000 but circuit judge Jeffrey Bushur reduced it to $200,000, on conditions Knight be placed under house arrest, and have no contact with children less than 18 years old except for his children. And those visits will be supervised. Also, Knight can’t get on the Internet or computer access.
According to the probable cause statement:
On March 17, a guardian of the alleged underaged victims discovered possible child pornography on the computer the person shared with Knight in a home in Independence. Knight was living with the person.
The guardian contacted police. A detective found out through the victims that Knight was touching himself while pornography was playing on the TV and the computer depicted children engaging in sexual activities.
Knight is also accused of touching the victims inappropriately in a sexual manner, and having sexual intercourse with at least one of the victims.
The detective interviewed Knight after he was arrested. He denied the allegations and said he had not looked at any child pornography.
Police obtained a search warrant for the computer and a digital camera that also may have depicted possible child porn.
Crime scene investigators responded to scene of where the incidents may have happened. They collected bedding from the alleged victim’s bedroom. The bedding, according to the guardian, had not been washed after the supposed incident.
Lab results showed there had been child porn on the computer that Knight had apparently used.
