Comprehensive Mental Health Services is a non-profit mental health agency serving Eastern Jackson County.
CMHS provides treatment in 22 psychiatric areas as well as addiction recovery to the 4,000 clients it serves each year. These services include support groups, crisis services, therapy and housing for those in recovery programs or for the mentally ill.
CMHS is funded by government agencies, foundations and through private donations.
The agency, founded in 1969, has its administrative offices in Independence at 10901 E. Winner Road. That is also the primary location for outpatient service. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
CMHS also has several locations in Independence that provide specific services, such as addiction treatment or housing for those in treatment.
The agency takes walk-ins or will schedule appointments. People seeking treatment from CMHS for the first time should go to the Winner Road location, where they would go through an intake process before being directed for further treatment.
Fees for services depend upon if the patient has health insurance, as well as income.
