This year’s Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast theme in Blue Springs was an obvious one for Mayor Carson Ross.
Scheduled for Nov. 6, the annual event this year will honor women veterans, a group that isn’t often recognized.
Ross, who is in charge each year of choosing which group will be honored, said the decision was easy.
“I lot of people don’t realize the number of women who have served for the nation’s military,” he said. “It’s important to recognize all those who’ve served.”
The event will begin with a breakfast buffet at 6:15 a.m. The program will follow at 7 a.m. and will feature guest speaker Paul Coffman, a former member of the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.
The price of admission is $20 per person or $150 per table of 10.
A Vietnam veteran himself, Ross has taken special pleasure in coming up with the veteran groups to recognize. Last year, his first since being elected, he chose to honor Korean War veterans.
Raising money for the Mayor’s Medal of Valor, Ross issued as many as 60 medals last year. As of Wednesday, Ross was unsure how many commemorative medals would be issued come the early morning of Nov. 6 at the Adams Pointe Conference Center.
That’s why Ross is asking Blue Springs female residents who are or who know a female veteran to call City Hall at 228-0110 to register for the event.
Residents can also contact Judy Qualkinbush at 816-228-8888.
Ross asks that the individual to be honored attend the morning function, which is sponsored by the Blue Springs Christian Business Men's Committee.
