As of this morning, charges had not yet been filed against the man accused of killing an Iowa man at a bar outside Grain Valley.
The victim of the shooting outside Whiskey Tango, 401 S. Outer Belt Road, in Grain Valley early Thursday has been identified as Jesse Saldivar, 38, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Grain Valley Police Department said that two men were fighting outside the closed bar shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday when one of the men pulled a gun and fired three rounds into Saldivar.
Officers said when they arrived they found the victim dead next to a pickup truck. Police said the suspect told them that he was the shooter.
The shooter, who has not been identified, is in custody, and charges are pending, police said.
Whiskey Tango, a popular country and western bar, typically attracts large crowds on weekend nights. The nightclub came under scrutiny at a recent Grain Valley Board of Alderman meeting. Police argued that its closing time — 3 a.m. — was too late and they pushed for a 1 a.m. closing time, which is typical for most Kansas City metro area clubs and bars.
