Boy, 4, killed when truck hits bicycle

The 4-year-old Blue Springs child who was struck and killed  by a rental delivery truck traveling near Ninth Street and Robin Circle in Blue Springs has been identified.

Mason P. McBride was reportedly riding his bike on a private drive near Ninth and Robin in the Villas of Autumn Bend neighborhood at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck, according to Jeremy Dickstein, public relations officer for the Blue Springs Police Department.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by Central Jackson County Fire Protection District officials.

Police questioned the driver but said there was no indication the driver was impaired or any criminal action was involved. Dickstein said police determined that the driver, who was visibly shaken, had not seen the boy, who was riding his bike three or four homes down from his own.

The child was living with his step-mother and father, according to police.
