Independence, MO —

An Independence man with a history of traffic violations is in custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed an 84-year-old Olathe woman Monday afternoon.
Clark L. Montgomery, 32, of Independence, turned himself in to Kansas Highway Patrol Thursday.
Montgomery was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident (a felony) and driving with a suspended license.
Police said Montgomery was driving a commercial truck that crashed into the back of a minivan driven by Rita F. Huscher on Kansas Highway 7 at Prairie Star Parkway on Monday afternoon. The minivan crashed into a highway pillar, killing her.
Montgomery is being held on a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear before a judge on Monday.
The truck was found Monday night on Osage Street in Independence.
KMBC-TV reported that Montgomery has at least eight prior traffic violations, most of which were commercial violations. He was recently ticketed for inattentive or careless driving.
Media reports said Montgomery admitted to friends that he had been involved in the accident after he discovered the woman had died.
