To the editor:
As both a resident of Independence, and a proud parent of three students in the district, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the administrators and PTSA leadership at Bridger Middle School and Truman High School for presenting the program “Rachel’s Challenge” last Friday.
I am also very thankful The Examiner was there covering this event. I had the great pleasure of attending the program at Bridger and was deeply moved by the positive, enlightening story of Rachel Scott, the first shooting victim in the Columbine High School shootings. The students were not only respectful during the program I attended but seemed genuinely affected by the message.
In these times when we are so often focused on the negativities of the world surrounding us, it is refreshing to be reminded that hope and opportunity can come out of even the most horrific incidents. It is imperative for our future that our children consistently hear and see these kinds of encouraging messages. It is my fervent hope that we will see more programs of this caliber in the near future.
