Independence, MO —

State Rep. Bob Dixon
R-Springfield
House Majority Caucus chairman

To the editor:
Recently a letter in The Examiner was highly critical of Rep. Curt Dougherty, D-53rd District (letters, April 21, “A state beer? Doesn’t Dougherty have more pressing things to do?”). Given the current political climate, it might come as a surprise to some that a member of the other party would come to his defense. Regardless of partisan politics, I must speak up for a gentleman I have watched work hard for his constituents and the citizens of Missouri.

Rep. Dougherty is in the Capitol from early morning to late evening. He has been instrumental in the successful passage of a number of bipartisan bills that have benefited the people of Missouri. Over the past four years that we have served together on the House Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing, he has always offered thoughtful questions and constructive ideas.

While we may not agree on everything, I count him a statesman and a friend. The people of Independence should know they are represented well.
