To the editor:
I’m confounded why people are so quick to believe everything they hear or read about Sen. Barack Obama being a flip-flopper.
I was as dismayed as anyone by his vote on the FISA bill, however, if you go back and read or watch interviews or clips from the debates during the Democratic primary, he really has not wavered from his stance on Iraq.
He spoke on this twice since the July 4th weekend, reiterating what he has always said: He wants to begin pulling troops in 16 months of taking office, plans on keeping some type of military presence in the region and will heed the advice of the generals on the ground in regards to how to go about doing this.
He has also always said he reserves the right to alter exactly how this will be done, given the existing situation, which frankly should make a lot of sense to anyone. He has also spoken quite clearly on his policy change in refusing public funding.
Hopefully, the voters will pay more attention to him rather than his opponents and the media.
