To the editor:
First let me say that I don’t have anything against animals – of any kind. My children have had dogs, cats, birds, ducks, gerbils, fish, etc.
But I have to draw the line at people who drive around town with their animals in their cars!
I am getting tired of following cars where people, specifically elderly people, are with their dogs in their lap while they are driving! Believe it or not, there was a woman at Starbucks in front of me – with her parrot on her steering wheel and shoulder!
This is getting out of control. People are already distracted enough with cell phones, etc. There needs to be a city ordinance that prohibits animals (of any kind) from being in the driver’s seat while the vehicle is on the road!
I worry about these elderly people, who by virtue of their age alone have slower reflexes and slower response times, driving around town with their dogs in their laps – between them and the steering wheel!
I may be way off base, but please leave your dog (or parrot) at home!
