To the editor:
My name is Donald E. Blake, I am 74 years old and retired. My only income is my Social Security check.
I have worked since I was 13 years old. I have paid income tax for 54 years, and I still pay all the other taxes. I need money, and so do all the other retired people. We have a hard time making it on only a Social Security check.
While I am grateful for a $300 rebate, it is half of the $600 if I was still working. This tells me that when you retire, you go from being a full American to half American. Even though I paid income tax for 54 years, when you get old, nobody cares. But one day, we are all going to be old.
It is shameful the government sees fit to do business this way.
