To the editor:
The Kansas City area office of the Muscular Dystrophy Association would like to extend its unending gratitude to Independence and all of the local executives who participated in the annual Independence MDA Lock Up on June 26.
The Lock Up was a huge success again this year, with more than $13,000 raised by nearly 80 businessmen and women.
These “jailbirds” were arrested at work by MDA volunteers and shipped to the maximum appreciation jail site at Drumm Farm Golf course. Upon arriving, the “jailbirds” phoned friends, family and business associates to raise bail of $1,600 – the cost to send two children confined to a wheelchair or living with limited mobility to MDA Summer Camp.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through research, comprehensive services and professional and public health education. Donations made at the Independence Executive Lock-Up will fund local MDA services such as clinics and patient support.
For more information about MDA programs and services contact the local Kansas City office at (816) 444-4595 or visit www.mda.org.
