To the editor:
I would like to express my appreciation to the Independence Police Department and the ambulance service for being so great to come to my husband’s rescue. He was stabbed so viciously twice in the back on April 23 at 3:40 p.m. on our front porch.

He had been resting in his swing and decided to come back into the house, when some person stabbed him in the back. To attack an 80-year-old crippled man must have taken a lot of courage!

I wish to thank the outpouring of kindness from friends and neighbors and the news media for letting other citizens of our city know we have unsavory people in our midst.

May God forgive whoever did this and spoiled the peace of our home. It’s going to be a while before I can!
