Examiner was wrong to report on lawsuit

To the editor:

I was very disappointed in The Examiner for finding the suit against Dr. Hummel newsworthy. Lawsuits are a common occurrence in today’s world, so what made this one so special? Were you trying to smear the good name of a prominent surgeon?

It may have been better had the article been headlined, “Another frivolous lawsuit clogs up our court system” and the reporter could have expounded on that topic.

I have known and worked alongside Dr. Hummel for nearly 20 years, and I can honestly say that he has always treated every one of his patients with professionalism, compassion and expert care regardless of sex, sexual orientation, race, religion or financial status. We are truly blessed in this community to have a surgeon of his caliber to treat our families. I have been so thankful that none of my family have been hurt while he has been defending himself against such ludicrous accusations.

Kudos to Dr. Hummel for not trying to make a buck off workman’s comp claims and for maintaining that same high standard of care and ethics that we always expect of him. Thumbs down to The Examiner for printing such garbage!
