Independence, MO —

To the editor:

I am working with the Independence School District through the YouthFriends Coordinator Laura Vernon to create around 50 supply bags to give to the new teachers at Van Horn High School. The bags will be stocked with items that teachers often end up resupplying out of their own pocket or items that they need to lend/give to students who may come to school unprepared.

I am needing some generous donors to help me fill them. These items listed below were recommended by teachers themselves.

If you can contribute any of these items I would appreciate it. You also could sponsor a bag, and buy enough items to fill it or fill it from your own office supply cabinet.  Sponsors would be welcome to include some promotional items, coupons or business cards to announce their assistance.

I need to complete filling the bags by early August. I will deliver the bags to teachers at Van Horn High School when they arrive to get ready for the 2008-09 school year, as a way to welcome Van Horn to the Independence School District.

Reach me at 816-795-6316 or shdavis53@comcast.net.
