Oak Grove, MO —

To the editor:

I want to make this perfectly clear and bring some people back down to earth. A lot of people are caught up in the frenzy of a former P.O.W. running for the presidency. Surprise: More than one hero came back from Vietnam. Sadly, many did not.

Those who were drafted to go fight in Vietnam are some of the true heroes. Most fought in the hot jungles and some got foot rot. The enemy hid in the trees and shot some of our troops.

Then along came the use of Agent Orange to clear the jungle foliage, helping to save our troops from ambushes – all the time not knowing the serious health risks it posed for our troops. Many were affected later by Agent Orange and lost their lives from the very thing that was supposed to help them.

Let’s not forget the nurses and medical professionals who saved lives during the war. Everyone knows our P.O.W.s suffered horrific injuries while in captivity; some never lived to talk about it.

The voters will decide in November who they think will lower gas prices, get good health-care programs, and really care about the economy and the working people. Who will really save the American jobs?
