To the editor:
There’s just something comforting about having a familiar coffee house to call home. When traveling, I have my favorites as far away as London and Amsterdam. When the motorcycle and I make a run to the Texas hill country, my heart is set on casting a shadow at the door of Eugene’s in College Station – it’s always alive with the buzz of A&M students well into the night.
When my attention turns closer to home, for the last year, I’ve been a lost soul. Yeah, they know my name at Starbucks. And I’ve discovered some gems while wandering deep into Kansas City. The Songbird and Hi Hat come to mind. But, they’ve been like a distant country – too corporate or too far away to really call home.
Now all that’s changed. The Main Street Coffee House on the Square held its grand opening on Friday (closed for about a year in an ownership change). They punched my “frequent visitor card” three times that day. Rumor has it they might send me a rental bill for the space I claimed. Familiar faces wandered through the door. Smiles were all around. It was like finding a long-lost friend.
Welcome back, Main Street Coffee House. You’ve been missed.
