Fireworks at all hours are annoying for many

To the editor:

My calendar says that it is Wednesday night, July 1, 2009, and the clock on my wall says that it is 9:52 p.m. But it sounds like the Fourth of July or New Year’s Eve here in my neighborhood, with all of the fireworks going off.

I have nothing against fireworks, but why can’t some people have some consideration for others? I am sure that most expect fireworks, lots of noise and such on the Fourth of July, but why do some feel the need to start celebrating the holiday with fireworks a week or so ahead or even after July 4th?

Some people have to work the next day, some people may be ill and need to rest and don’t need to be kept up for days in a row with the noise, and some people may have pets who are totally upset with the noise and smell of fireworks. It is all fine and dandy to want to celebrate, but please take your neighbors into consideration. Does anyone really think the elderly couple next door really wants to hear your fireworks going off in the driveway next to theirs for a week at all hours of the night and day? What about the couple down the street with a sick baby? How about the person who just got out of the hospital after surgery and just wants to rest? Do they appreciate all of the noise?

Why can’t people understand that while it is nice to shoot off some fireworks on July 4th, it does not need to be a two-week event.

Please have some consideration for the humans who surround your living space.
