Jennifer Salva was recently crowned as the 2012-13 Miss Czech-Slovak US Queen.
Salva, who grew up in Sugar Creek, is the first national queen from the Kansas City area. She was crowned Aug. 5 in Wilber, Neb.
The national competition began more than 25 years ago to celebrate and promote the Czech and Slovak heritage in the United States. Because she now lives in Kansas, she represented the state of Kansas in the pageant.
The two-day pageant includes four areas of competition – personal interview, public interview, talent and modeling. As the winner, she will be traveling to the Czech and Slovak Republics as the new national queen.
