New play opens at Heartland Theatre
The American Heartland Theatre presents, “Are We There Yet” – A Family Survival Guide, through Aug. 23 at the Theatre in Crown Center.
This play offers a fresh look at the roller-coaster ride we call the “typical American family.” From childbirth to senior prom, through blind dates and family trips, all the way to empty nests and the joys that can still be had after 60. Using song, dance and sketch comedy, there is something for everyone.
Tickets prices range from $17.50 to $33. For tickets, call 816-842-9999 or at the theatre box office.

Renowned choir to sing in Lee’s Summit
 The Chapel Choir from Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., will perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday at The Pavilion, 520 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit.
This 90-voice, high-school-age choir, which sings regularly for the 7,000-member church, performs a varied repertoire of literature from standard choral literature to contemporary Christian music. Throughout the last 55 years, the Chapel Choir has toured annually within the United States and several other countries.
This performance is free and open to the public.

Aaron Tippin to sing in Pleasant Hill
Nippit Records Recording Artist Aaron Tippin will be live in concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cass County Fair in Pleasant Hill.
His hits include “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio,” “Kiss This,” “That’s as Close as I’ll Get to Loving You,” “You’ve God to Stand for Something,” “My Blue Angel,” “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagles Fly,” and “For You I Will.”
General admission is $15, children under 5 are free. Tickets are available at Pleasant Hill City Hall, Pleasant Hill Pet and Livestock and Pleasant Hill Bank. For more information, call 816-540-3135.

The Raytown Arts Council is presenting their summer musical, “Wizard of Oz,” on July 17, 18, 24 and 25 at the Robert B. Atkin Performing Arts Center at Raytown High School, 6019 Blue Ridge Blvd. All performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee performance July 19.
Join all of your favorite characters – Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Glinda, the munchkins, and Toto, too, as they travel down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to seek the magnificent Wizard of Oz.
Ticket prices are $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the Raytown Hy-Vee Store, 9400 E. Missouri 350. For more information, call 816-358-9940.

New puppet play opening
“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” with puppeteer Karen Konnerth with Calliope Puppets from New Orleans, will be presented at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 18 at the Puppetry Arts Institute, 11025 E. Winner Road, Independence.
This classic tale from the Brothers Grim features a clever and kind-hearted girl whose ability to read is her greatest strength in outwitting a wicked sorcerer. The audience recites simple poems as they assist in the working of the magic spells. The girl remains true throughout to her mother’s advice to do something good for the world.
The $5 cost includes seeing the museum and a free finger puppet for each child. For reservations, call 816-833-9777.
