My family is mostly made up of curly headed people. Just a few with the shiny, straight hair. So one of my curly peeps suggested that I offer up some tips for helping those curly locks avoid the frizzes. Oh it’s been an awful summer for frizz. Here are some of these tips...
If your hair is curly and over-colored or over-bleached, it will get dry and frizzy due to the damage.
Your best choice for revival is a deep conditioning treatment, or a series of them, depending on the amount of damage. A protein treatment for strength, followed by your favorite moisturizing treat is the best bet.
Try a styling product that is made for curly hair. They come in a huge assortment from products to help add more curl to your hair, while others help to smooth out some of the curl. A pomade or oil type product applied to dry hair will help tame even the frizziest of curls.
Beware of products that are volumizing. Some actually dry the hair a bit and can cause even more frizz. Swimming in pool water can do a real drying up number on your shiny locks – if your not careful. Always try to rinse out the pool water in the very least.
The rainy season has made all of us with wavy or curling hair run for the cover of the indoors. Withing minutes of being outdoors our hair can convert from soft and shiny to wild and frizzy. This summer has been a real challenge. No amount of bobbie pins has been able to keep my hair in place.
I don’t know if I even have any advice for actually getting caught in the rain!
Try to rinse your hair with the coldest water you can stand after using a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type of hair. The cold water will in effect lock down the cuticle and makes your lovely locks look sleek and reduce the frizz.
Try not to use a hair brush on your curls. A hair brush on frizzy hair could cause split ends. Use a pick when your hair is wet, then style with your fingers when your hair is dry.
For morning bed head frizz, spray your hair with water and scrunch the curls back in place.
Don’t towel dry your hair after you shampoo. Wrap your hair in a towel for 10 minutes or so then take the towel off. This will absorb the excess water without ruffling the cuticle.
These are just a few of my favorite tricks. I hope some of these ideas are helpful to you or yours. Me and mine have found them useful. ...and keeping 50 bobbie pins close by!
Have a beautiful day!
