Well, friends, you may or may not have heard of one of the latest trends that has everyone flocking to the salon. It is feather hair extensions – rooster feathers to be exact. They can be washed, dried, even flat ironed or curled right along with the rest of your hair, and they come in a plethora of fine, feathery colors.

How do they stay I the hair? Simple. They are attached with a silicone bean crimped around a small section of hair and the feather. Some stay in the hair for months, and many of our salon guests are coming in to have them reattached closer to the scalp after they “grow” out. Most feather extension clients are female, although Steven Tyler wears them and wears them well. They do look best in longer hair, but I have had them in, and my hair is quite short these days. Gals of all ages are wearing them. They are fun, sassy and subtle.

A few concerns have come up with the use of rooster feathers from animal abuse to fly fishing feather shortage. You can read all about the different aspects of each subject matter if you like. As we did our research, we decided to use a company that is humane in practice and, well, I just don’t know what to tell you fly fisherman, except that I personally plan on staying out of  your supply stores.

It is hard to keep a large amount of the feathers in stock, so there is another trend that is just as fun. It is tinsel extensions. Yep, just like Christmas tinsel. It comes in different colors and is darling!

If those don’t ruffle your feathers, then you can also buy some clip in hair pieces that come in small strips and bright colors like the feathers and tinsel. These just clip in and can be removed daily.

Now you know all about those sassy little colored hair pieces. So what do you think? Are you ready to give it a try?
