By now, we are used to (or, should be used to) the idea that gentlemen can take advantage of some salon treatments that have traditionally been obtained by women. Metro man’s grooming practices have universally become every man’s stuff. It is time to go beyond regular haircuts, haircolor, manicures, pedicures, facials and massages. Now that we have moved our handsome male population passed the grooming basics, let’s get into some other grooming tips for the guys who are willing to step it up a notch.
First, let’s separate the Cromagnon eyebrow, into two completely separate entities. Just as I mentioned in the recent column in eyebrow shaping. It takes not much more than five minutes for your stylist, or better yet an esthetician (licensed skin care specialist), to remove the excess hair from between your eyebrows, and your eyelid. The technique that I am referring to hair removal with wax.
The tech will apply a small amount of warm wax to the area that needs to be cleaned up, and then set a strip of muslin or fibery paper over the wax. The hair adheres to the wax and the wax to the paper. When the strip is removed, so will go the unwanted hair! Do not let anyone remove too much hair. Go easy, and you will see what your eyebrows can look well groomed, yet not lady like. In general, you do not need your eyebrows to be “shaped” as women do, just the extra hair removed.
Next, your ears. Have the excess hair that is growing on the outside of your ears waxed as well. The waxing will keep your ears itchy hair free longer than clipping them. Then... while you are having your manicure, ask your manicurist about removing the fuzzy hairs on your knuckles. Wax on, wax off! It takes a minute and makes your hands look great… am I pushing the envelope here? No way!
Last but certainly not least, your back. This is a larger area than the other two, so you might want to ask for some numbing spray. This is applied before you wax and helps to relieve the discomfort associated with ripping the hair from your body.
After any hair removal service of this type, the technician will apply some antibacterial, soothing lotion. Many times you can purchase Sometimes you can get some to take home and reapply.
