The holiday season is a great time to try on a new hairstyle. Most of us have a gathering of some sort to attend, and this is a great excuse to buy a new outfit and try on a new hairstyle as well.

Sometimes all we need to do to change things up a bit is to change the way we style our hair.

So I thought it would be a good idea to start with the first part – the way you part your hair! It seems like a simple concept, I know, but, I think you will find it interesting, and helpful.

No real rules here. Just tips involving balance and symmetry. Which will make your overall style look, and work for you.

1. If you are concerned with drawing attention to your nose, try not to part your hair in the middle.

A center part will act as an arrow, pointing to the actual facial feature that you may not want to highlight.

2. Use a center part for a low hairline.

This will expose more of your forehead and take away from the low hairline. Using no part at all and wearing all of your hair off of your forehead would be even better.

3. Try to use a low side part for drama. This type of part will force more hair to one side and swing over one eye…sexy!

4. Part your hair on the side of your face that needs a lift. You can find this out by pulling all of your hair off of your face.

Then, really look to see which eye is lower, smaller, or down set compared to the other eye.

This is the eye, or side you want to give lift to. By parting your hair on this side it will give the illusion of opening up that side of your face. This trick will help balance your whole style.

5. Do use a swirl, growth direction, or a widow’s peak to your advantage.

Experiment with the lift you can get with these strong growth patterns and go with it.

For example, if a widow’s peak is parted slightly to one side you can get a great wave to the heavy side of the part. If you choose not to, remember to leave your hair heavier in that area to weigh out the stubborn pattern.

6. If you only want to change your look for a night, a chic zigzag part could be an outstanding choice.

Using your tail comb, simply trace the part back and forth from your forehead to the back of the head, in a zig zag manner, with the long skinny (tail end) then, as you pull the comb up and out, separate the sections so that they lay evenly on either side of your head!

I hope you have a chance to try this part. Have a beautiful day!
