Following a month of open house tours for the general public, the new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Kansas City was dedicated Sunday, May 6. Now that Church of Jesus Christ President Thomas S. Monson has dedicated the Temple, it is open only to practicing Mormons who come with a recommendation from their ecclesiastical leaders. The facility is located about 25 minutes north of Independence off of Interstate 435 and Shoal Creek Parkway.

First, there was a planning meeting on a hot, humid Sunday afternoon in August 1961. A year and three months later, the church became official with 83 charter members.

Bobby Bonner, former major league baseball player, author and missionary to Africa, will be the special guest speaker 10 a.m. Sunday at the 15th anniversary celebration of First Bible Baptist Church, 1441 S.E. Adams Dairy Parkway in Blue Springs.

A day filled with family-friendly activities will take place Saturday in honor of the 50th anniversary of Timothy Lutheran Church.
