If you are re-entering the workforce and your pocketbook is empty, plan to attend the Women’s Fashion Boutique from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church Gym, 4725 Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit.
There will be clothing for interviews, shoes, clothing for work, handbags, casual wear and jewelry. This event is hosted by the Women’s Ministry at the church.

Stone Church Community of Christ will hold Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the church, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Alecia Cripps will speak on the theme, “You Are My Witnesses,” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service this Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Chapel Hill youth
will serve hot dogs
The youth group of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church are planning a hot dog roast after worship this Sunday. It will be held at the new fire pit that was constructed by Boy Scout Troop 763. There will be hot dogs, and s’mores served.
The Wednesday Night Coffeehouse will be held at 6 p.m. this Wednesday. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and dessert and the show will start at 6:30 p.m. Members and friends will share their talents.
There is a Heartland Presbyterian Camp workday on April 28. Those interested can carpool at the church at 8 a.m. in order to arrive at camp by 9 a.m.
The Senior High are fundraising for their mission trip this summer. The “Task Force Work Crew” is seeking sponsors for the youth to do task around the church. Their work day is April 28.

‘Taming the Tongue’
“Taming the Tongue” is the subject of sermons for the remainder of April at the Independence First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Maple Ave.
The Rev. Mitchell Jarvis will preach at both the 9 and 11:15 a.m. worship services this Sunday, and youth minister Bryson Lillie will preach April 29.
Group ‘Eternity Focus’
performs at Eastpoint

Lay clergy group
restoring old hotel
The Lay Clergy Council, comprised of 11 local churches of different faith traditions, is restoring the historic Tucker Hotel, which will be converted into a thrift store, food pantry and lodging for Pleasant Hill residents who are in need of these services. The Lay Clergy will manage and support this facility through generous donations from the community.
A major fundraiser toward their goal will be a Zumba Party from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The cost is $4 at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the Tucker Restoration Project.

Scouts garage sale,
breakfast this week
Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 229 will have their annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at Independence First Christian Church, 125 S Pleasant.
There will also be a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. April 28 in Fellowship Hall. The cost is $3.50 for coffee, juice, sausage and all-you-can-eat pancakes.

holds women’s rally
Blue Springs Assembly Women will host its spring women’s rally, “Passion 2012,” beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs Assembly, 2501 N.E. Duncan Road. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., so participants are invited to drop in early for free appetizers and shopping at the BSA Boutique.
The evening includes games, giveaways and a time of praise and worship. The after-rally activities include a mini mani, Zumba, mug with a friend for Glamour Shots ($2 person) and more.

Flower sale planned
at Robert Bellarmine
St. Robert Bellarmine Church will sell flowers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 28, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29, inside the office doors at the west end of the building, 4313 S. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.
There will be bedding plants, annuals, hanging baskets, herbs, patio pots and tomato plants. Proceeds will go to their Sister Community of Cinquera, El Salvador.
Motorcyclists to aid
child abuse group
Open Arms Community of Christ congregation’s Peace Riders motorcycle ministry is hosting a fundraiser April 28 to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Association. Biker registration begins at 11 a.m. at the church, 1101 W. Walnut St. in Independence. The registration fee for the 50-mile ride, which will begin at 3 p.m., is $5 per person.
Free activities for all ages will run from noon until 3 p.m. Non-bikers are welcome! Visit information, motorcycle-related, and craft vendor booths throughout the event. The evening kicks off with a pig roast picnic at 5:30 p.m. (free will donation for CAPA) followed by a coffeehouse and fellowship with live bands from 6 to 8 p.m.

Grain Valley church
plans garage sale
Faith United Methodist Church in Grain Valley will hold its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28.
All purchases will be by donation only; there will be no prices on any of the items for sale. All of the money raised will be used for mission trips and mission projects. Items include furniture, clothes, appliances, children’s toys, kitchen supplies, tools and books.

One Voice in concert
