St. Paul United Methodist Church in Independence will host workshops from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays to help parents who have children making the transition from elementary school to middle school.
Topics are: July 10, Planned Parenthood; July 24, Alcoholics Anonymous & TBA (probably MOCSA); July 31, Planned Parenthood – Parent & Child workshop; Aug. 7, PACER (bullying awareness).
Vacation Bible School will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 15 through 19, with the theme “Fishin’ on a Mission.” It’s based on the missionary journeys of Paul to attract and train young people.

Chapel Hill Presbyterian
Vacation Bible school begins Monday and runs all week at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. It’s from 9 a.m. to noon. The church is at 3108 Westbound U.S. 40 in Blue Springs.
This year’s theme is “Operation Overboard: Dare to Go Deep with God,” and will include “Underwater Passage” (Bible storytelling), “Choral Reef” (music), “Aquatic Arts” (crafts), “High Tide Hangout” (recreation) and “Diver’s Diner” (snacks).
On Thursday evening, there’s a potluck for all youth and parents. Hot dogs, chips, drinks, and dessert will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a hot side or salad.
Friday is Water Day. Bring a towel, sunscreen and shoes and clothing that you can get wet in.
The mission project for the week will be collecting supplies for emergency cleanup buckets. The goal is to collect 25 items each day. Children are asked to bring:
• Monday – dry laundry detergent (50 to 78 ounce), sponges, clothes pins.
• Tuesday – 20-45 gallon heavy duty trash bags (24-28) count), work gloves, dust masks.
• Wednesday – easy wipes, liquid antibacterial soap (25 oz), scouring pads.
• Thursday – liquid household cleaner (12 oz), scrub brushes, five-gallon bucket with lid.
• Friday – lotion insect repellent (6-14 oz), clothesline (100 ft).

Pleasant View Christian Church is having a vacation Bible school kick-off carnival from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 22 at the church, 19114 E. Salisbury Road, Independence.
There will be carnival games, a moon walk and concessions, plus a registration table for the VBS. Serengeti Trek is the theme, and is offered preschool age to sixth grade. The youth group will help with the activities, as well as any adult volunteers.
The church is also starting a Wednesday youth Bible study group from 6 to 7 p.m., studying the book “Erasing Hell,” by Francis Chan.

Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church will host Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 23 through 27 at the church, 3625 E. Blue Ridge Blvd., Independence. Families with children 6 to 12 years of age are welcome to attend.
