Pratt speaks Sunday at Stone Church
Randall Pratt will speak on the theme of “God Provides Strength and Understanding” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
Pratt is a lawyer in the Greater Kansas City community. Duane Qualls will be presiding. The music will be provided by Barbara Fear at the organ and Brenda McClaran Allen at the cello, and Paulette V. Resch and Brenda McClaran Allen will provide the ministry of music.

Ham-and-bean dinner held at St. Paul UMC
St. Paul United Methodist Church will hold its annual ham and bean dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 6 at the church, 3601 S. Sterling Ave., Independence.
For a free will offering, enjoy ham and beans, corn bread, drink and dessert.

Congregation plans Chocolate Festival
The First Presbyterian Church is holding its second annual Chocolate Festival from 1 and 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at Westminster Hall, 417 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
A free will offering gains you entry and a taster’s plate. The event also features a Children’s Craft Corner, a chocolate fountain, silent auction and a sales room.

Financial Peace University offered
East Side Baptist Church is offering the Financial Peace University program beginning Sunday at the church, 19901 E. Missouri 78, Independence.
Financial Peace University, a 13-week program taught by Dave Ramsey, teaches families and individuals how to handle their money through common-sense principles and small group accountability.

Chapel Hill ready to aid ‘Souper Bowl of Caring’
Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church will be taking part in the “Souper Bowl of Caring” on Feb. 7.
Through this mission young people learn what it’s like to make a positive difference in the world as they collect food, raise money and volunteer to work in charities that provide shelter to the homeless, food to the hungry and compassion to those in need.
During the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday, the youth of Chapel Hill will be doing the Call to Mission. They will be promoting the “Souper Bowl of Caring” with a fun skit to let the congregation know more about the program.
The membership is still being encouraged to bring troop donations on Sunday in January. The donations will be distributed to our troops.
The membership is also making up “Health Care Kits for Haiti Relief, Presbyterian (U.S.A.)” The items needed are:

• 1 hand towel (16”x28”)
• 1 wide-tooth comb
• 1 nail clipper
• 1 bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
• 1 wash cloth
• 6 band-aids
• 1 toothbrush (in original packaging).

These items are to be sealed in a one-gallon zipper bag. The kits will be taken to the Heartland Presbytery office for distribution through the One Great Hour of Sharing resources.
A Habitat for Humanity Benefit Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Beacon Heights Community of Christ Church, 19402 E. Holke Road, Independence. This is an opportunity to enjoy a concert while benefiting a wonderful organization.

Super Bowl Sunday recital at Temple
In her first year as principal organist and Director of Music for Community of Christ, Jan Kraybill began a tradition of free Super Bowl Sunday concerts. Super Bowl Sunday Recital XI will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Community of Christ Temple, River Boulevard and Walnut Street, Independence.
This free concert is designed especially for children, youth, and the young-at-heart. Groups that include at least one person under the age of 20 will have opportunity for a guided organ tour, with an up-close look at the pipes and console of the Temple’s magnificent Casavant organ, following her performance.
