Sugar Creek UMC sets ice cream social

Sugar Creek United Methodist Church will hold its annual ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 415 N. Sterling Ave.

The $4 cost includes a large serving of homemade ice cream, along with cake, coffee or iced tea. Carry-out is available. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Rev. Florio set to be installed at Chapel Hill

The Heartland Presbytery, the Session and congregation of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, invite the community to join in the worship of God at the service of installation for the Rev. Andrew Joseph Florio as the pastor of the Chapel Hill at 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be a reception following the service.

At the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Anson Long-Seabra, along with friends, Christian Spinler and Dalton Rowlett, will play a saxophone trio, Andante and Rondo.

Stone Church – ‘See with Eyes of Faith’

Alan Tyree will speak on the theme of “See with Eyes of Faith” at the 10:20 a.m. worship and communion service Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Alecia Cripps will preside over the service, and Junia Braby will play the organ. Others participating in the service are Hank Volskay, Berneice Clark and Gail Woodstock.

The third of five services for Stone Church’s Summer Series features Wim van Klinken, assistant to the Council of Twelve and the First Presidency. He will speak on the theme “Responsible Choices.” Kara Vojcsik will preside over the service. Special music will be provided by Erica Jablonski, and Hemdah Salonimer Horner will play the piano. Others participating in the service are Karen Chatfield and J.P. Roberts.

Financial Peace University offered

Two area churches will hold Financial Peace University, a Biblically based accountability curriculum that teaches smart money-making decisions.

First Baptist Church of Buckner, Sundays Aug. 15 through Nov. 15. For more information, call the church at 816-650-5632.

Maywood Baptist Church in Independence, beginning at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 25. New enrollees are invited to see the first session on “Super Saving” and make the decision about enrolling for the fall session. For more information, call Kathleen Wright at 816-254-3344.

 This 13-week video series, led by Dave Ramsey, is designed to teach families to eliminate debt and build wealth.

St. John LaLande holds 5K walk/run

The registration deadline for the St. John LaLande’s 5K walk/run is Sunday. The race will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 21.

Clothing sale set at Cornerstone Church

Cornerstone Church in Blue Springs will be hosting its annual giant clothing sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 and 27, and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 28 at the church, 301 E. AA Highway.

Infant through adult clothing will be available, with all items costing $1 and under. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Storehouse outreach ministry.

First Christian offers hymn sing, worship

The community is invited to attend an “Old Fashion Hymn Sing and Worship Service” during the 8:30 and 10:40 a.m. services Aug. 29 at the First Christian Church of Independence, 125 S. Pleasant St.

The worship services will be held in the Fellowship Hall, with a free will offering continental breakfast served during 9:30 a.m. Sunday school hour. This is a continuation of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the church in 1835.

Calvary Baptist Church will be holding a gospel concert beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at the church, 900 N.W. 22nd St., Blue Spring. The concert will feature “Belshe and the Backup.”
