Mayor to address Ministerial Alliance
Independence Mayor Don Reimal will speak at the Independence Ministerial Alliance meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday at The Groves Retirement Community, 1515 W. White Oak St., Independence. Lunch will follow.
His topic is “Where are we now? Where are we going?”

Chapel Hill welcomes Florio as new pastor
Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church has welcomed the Rev. Andrew Florio as its permanent pastor.
The church’s schedule of activities continues with the Church and Society Minister Unit asking for contributions in January to go to US Troop Support, an organization that collects items for CARE packages to be sent to soldiers serving overseas.
Items needed are pouch tuna/chicken/turkey; beef jerky (any kind); canned, ready-to-eat soup (pop top); vacuum-packed meats; presweetened powdered mix drinks (Gatorade or any source of electrolytes); white socks, AA and AAA batteries; used DVDs and CDs. Monetary contributions may also be made.

‘Listen to God’s Voice' Sunday at Stone Church
Kent Parker will speak on the theme “Listen to God’s Voice” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
Parker works for the World Church. Bob Wilson will be presiding, and the music will be provided by Nathan and Julie Smith at the organ and violin. Amy Jeffers will provide the ministry of music. Others participating in the service are Karen Cross, Roy Schaefer, Ronald Yager Sr., Martha Hamm, Floyd Fears, Pat Hettrick and Garth Resch.

Husband and wife set for Auditorium concert
The third event of the 50th birthday celebration of the Auditorium Organ will feature the husband-and-wife duo of Ken Cowan and Lisa Shihoten in a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Community of Christ Auditorium, River Boulevard and Walnut Street, Independence.
Cowan is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. He is an assistant professor of organ at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. Cowan has also been a featured artist at national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, and the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
Shihoten made her debut in 1995, performing Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy with the Juilliard Orchestra under Kurt Masur. As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has appeared at the Aspen, Verbier, and Ravinia festivals, and at Caramoor’s “Rising Stars” series.
She is also Grand Prize winner at the Marcia Polayes National Violin Competition and the Nakamichi Concerto Competition.
