Gospel quartet sets
two performances

Final Authority, a Southern gospel quartet, will be in concert at 6 tonight at the First Baptist Church of Buckner, 131 S. Hudson. A fellowship will follow the concert.
The quartet also will be at Calvary Baptist Church at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The church is at 900 N.W. 22nd St., Blue Springs. A potluck dinner will follow. For more information, call the church at 816-228-5540 or visit www.calvarybluesprings.org.

Garage sale/craft sale
assists area ministy

A bizarre bazaar and garage/craft sale to benefit the Christmas store of the Lutheran Urban Ministry Association will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24 at Ascension Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City.
New items include handmade quilts, purses, jewelry and other handcrafted items. There will also be antiques, heirlooms, jewelry, household items, small furniture, toys, books and more. Bring one book and get two, or just make a purchase.

‘Cinderella’s Ball’
at Cornerstone Church

Cornerstone Community of Christ will host “Cinderella’s Ball” today in conjunction with the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the church is at 1316 S. Osage St., Independence.
Come feast with the king and queen and help the prince find his bride. The evening will include a six-course meal, two hours of entertainment and a complimentary ticket to the 2010 Kansas City Renaissance Festival.
Tickets are $20 per person. Proceeds will go to local community outreach projects provided by Cornerstone. To purchase tickets, call 913-721-2110.

Financial Peace
University offered

Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University will be offered at First Baptist Church of Buckner on Sundays from Aug. 15 through Nov. 21. Meetings are at 6 p.m.
Preview sessions are at 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday and 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the church. For further information, call the church at 816-650-5632.

‘Shout Unto the Lord’
event is scheduled

“Youth Shaeach 2010 – Shout Unto the Lord” will be held July 29 through Aug. 1.
The event kicks off from 8 to 10 p.m. July 29 at Blue Springs Rolladium Sk8 Center, 513 S.W. Keystone Drive ($5 admission includes skate rental,) continues with a Shabach-A-Thon at 8 p.m. July 30 at Faith Tabernacle Church, 2121 Sterling Ave., Independence, with a back to school drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 at MGM Thrift Store, 3425 S. Noland Road, Independence, and concludes with an 11 a.m. service Aug. 1 at Faith Tabernacle Church.
If you would like to help the cause, please donate school supplies or gently used/new backpacks. Donations may be take to the MGM Thrift Store.

Clothing exchange
at Beacon Heights

Beacon Heights Community of Christ will hold a free clothing exchange for children grades K-12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 at the church, 19402 E. Holke Road, Independence (next to the Blue Valley Activities Center).
Bring your outgrown, clean children’s school clothing (all sizes) to exchange for clothes (you pick out) that will fit your children for the coming year. There will also be volunteers from the Independence Police Department to enroll your child in the Ident-A-Kid program ( free).

Pancake breakfast
at First Christian

First Christian Church, 125 S. Pleasant, will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. July 31 in the fellowship hall. The cost is $3.50 for coffee, juice, sausage and all-you-can-eat pancakes. It is open to the community. For information, call the church at 252-6100.

‘Grounded in Christ’
is weekend’s theme

“Grounded in Christ” is this Sunday’s theme at the 10:20 a.m. worship service at the Stone Church Community of Christ.
Carson Whitesell and Cade Whitesell will be confirmed. Arthur Butler will lead the service. Jeanne Chase and Esther Mills will offer the confirmation prayers. Terry Snapp will give the homily.

Chapel Hill church
collects school goods

Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church is collecting school supplies that the Community Services League will distribute in August. The congregation is asked to bring supplies to the church by Sunday. .
The church is also supporting the garage sale for “Gilly Bean’s Basket – Step up for Down Syndrome” being held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28-21 at 2513 N.W. Camelot Place. Members have given items for sale and the public is encouraged to attend.
