Barnes & Noble in Independence is holding the 2012 “Healing Hearts and Homes” book drive, sponsored by the KC Metro Women’s Council of Realtors, to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Association. Anyone interested in donating to the drive can purchase books at the Independence store, 19120 E. 39th St. The book drive began Nov. 1 and will continue through the holiday season.

CAPA provides services for children of all ages; therefore donated books can be for a child of any age. All books collected will benefit children being served through CAPA services. CAPA case managers and therapists teach parents activities that improve and strengthen parent-child relationships.  Reading helps prevent child abuse and neglect by creating long lasting nurturing relationships between children and their families.

Ron Beck, Community Relations Manager, originally set the goal to raise 1,800 books at the start of the book drive. However, after an overwhelming response from the community, he has now raised the goal to collect 2,300 books.

For more information, call Barnes & Noble at 816-795-9878 or CAPA at 816-252-8388.
