The holiday season can be bittersweet after the loss of a loved one. It’s a happy time that recalls sweet memories of those we love, but it can also be a sad and empty time without them.
To give individuals a special opportunity to honor their departed family members and friends, Speaks Family Legacy Chapels in Independence, will sponsor two “Special Day of Remembrance” services. The first will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., and the second will be 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St.
“Anyone that has suffered a loss is invited to attend, whether Speaks Chapel served the family or not,” stated David Speaks, Remembrance program chairman. “The goal of this service is to provide a meaningful way to remember a loved one and to assist the individual in the healing process. We hope that everyone in the community that feels they can benefit from this type of service will join us.”
As part of the service, every attending family will be invited to bring one ornament that personally represents their loved one and place it on a special Remembrance Christmas Tree in their memory.  Harold Ivan Smith, a noted educator, author and grief counselor, will join Brad Speaks, president of Speaks Chapels, and other Speaks family members in presenting these inspirational programs.
The identical programs are free and open to the public. While reservations are not required, you are urged to call 816-252-7900 for reservations. Refreshments will be served following the programs.
