Members of the troop committee of Boy Scout Troop 263 of Northern Boulevard Methodist Church assumed the role of painters and swarmed over the home of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Feeney wielding brushes. Feeney suffered a heart attack in February and has been unable to work. The men painting were Winston Scrogin, Walter Harves, Otis Elliott, Harold Martin, John Williamson, Howard Dewey, Floyd Foley and Howard Eshleman.
The Heart of America Genealogical Society elected new officers: President, Kermit B. Karns; first vice president, Mrs. John Vineyard; recording secretary, Mrs. Blanche W. Schaffer; corresponding secretary, Rev. S.A.M. King; treasurer, Miss Nellie S. Chrisman; and registrar, Mrs. Cecil S. Moore. Mrs. George O. Wilson is retiring president.
The new “Miss Missouri,” Independence’s own red-headed beauty, 19-year-old Linda Long, was crowned in the state pageant at the Hotel Chase in St. Louis. Miss Long is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis X.
Phil Soper, a William Chrisman senior and his speech teacher, Miss Margaret Meredith, left for Miami, where Phil will represent his school in the national speech tournament of the National Forensic League. Phil, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Soper was a first place winner in the state contest at Southwest State College, Springfield.
