It’s something that’s often seen on the silver screen, only sometimes in reality.
Two and a half years ago, Keith Blythe of Oak Grove managed, in two days, to train Benny, his then 3-month-old Gorden setter, to bring The Examiner to him each morning.
When Blythe was diagnosed with cancer, while his wife worked and his daughter went to high school during the day, he wanted something to keep him occupied, but more than anything, he wanted a companion.
That’s when he got Benny, who is now a 3-year-old adult. He recently added Sasha to the family; she’s a 9-month-old golden retriever.
“I taught Benny as many things as I could think of because I had nothing better to do than be a pal to my pal, Benny,” Blythe said.
Blythe is still working with Sasha to teach her things that came easily to Benny, but he is having fun teaching her and working with both dogs to develop an unconditional life-long friendship.
